In 1888 George S. Parker, an American teacher, tiring of his pupils' constant requests to repair their pens, set out to design and manufacture a better pen. That pen, and its successors, earned Parker a reputation for reliability, quality and smoothness of writing that quickly became the standard against which others were judged.
