MONTBLANC LIMITED WRITERS SERIES GEORGE BERNARD SHAW BALLPEN
This year, the coveted Montblanc Writers Edition is dedicated to George Bernard Shaw, the celebrated Irish dramatist and 1925 Nobel Prize winner for literature. The shrewd, sharp satirist was born in Dublin in 1856 and was self-taught in the subjects he loved – music and literature. At 20, he moved to London and became a music and theatre critic and went on to write almost 40 plays. His best-known play, Pygmalion, caused a scandal at its premiere in 1913 with its humorous yet critical commentary of Victorian class society, but went on to become an Oscar Award winner for Shaw for best screenplay and later, the much-loved musical My Fair Lady. Eliza Doolittle’s metamorphosis from lowly flower girl into aristocratic lady is reflected in the design of the Montblanc Writers Edition barrel with its graduated, thin to thick platinum-plated bands. The beautiful, dark green marbled lacquer recalls the fresh greens of the Irish countryside and the London flower markets. The Shaw series includes a twist ball pen and a fountain pen featuring a hand-worked, 18K gold nib with platinum-plating and a “loverly” flower engraving. Under the ivory-colored Montblanc star on the cap is the sweeping signature of Eliza’s spiritual father, George Bernard Shaw. The Shaw series also includes a three-piece set with fountain pen, ballpoint and 0.7mm pencil. Each numbered instrument is presented in a book-shaped box to honor the life and spirit of this world-famous and much-loved writer.
