    Product Description

American Heritage Age Of Steam Railroad Ballpoint Pen
This heritage pen was handcrafted from wood removed from a Western Maryland Railroad passenger coach car No. 814. The car was built in 1912 by Barney and Smith Car Co. of Dayton, Ohio. By the late 1800's, Barney and Smith was the second largest car builder in North Carolina, employing 20,000 men. No. 814 was designed as a parlor-smoker luxury coach of the early 800 series. It began service in 1913 for the Western Maryland, Baltimore and Chicago lines on the Chicago/Baltimore Limited. WMRR operated for 120 years in Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, first opening for service August 11, 1859.

In 1967 car No. 814 was retired and donated by Western Maryland Railroad to the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society. That same year Car No. 814 was acquired by the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. It is presently being restored by the Strasburg Rail Road.
