SAILOR FLOATING FANS MAKI-E FOUNTAIN PEN

The Sailor Floating Fans fountain pen is handcrafted in traditional Japanese maki-e by Mr. Kosen Oshita. This specially commissioned pen from Salior repesents the famous “Three Boats“ ceremony, which takes place annually on the outskirts of Kyoto. The theatrical ceremony involves costumed Japanese ladies throwing fans into the stream and watching them float away, a scene that recalls the Emperor and his court on the Oi river during the Heian period (794-1185). The fountain pen is fitted with Sailor’s exceptional, 21K gold nib. Specify XF, F, M, B or Music nib. Uses cartridges or converter.

An amazing new limited edition series from Sailor, the Creatures of the Deep collection symbolizes the significance of marine life to man and the natural environment. The beautiful, colorful and fascinating marine species are each delicately decorated by hand using traditional Japanese maki-e techinques by the famous artist and craftsman, Mr. Koushu Nishihara. Born into a family of maki-e artists in Hiroshima, Japan, he has lived and worked with the art form all of his life. His original and imaginative designs shown here include: Whales (Kujira), Octopus (Tako), Hammerhead Shark (Same) and Clownfish (Kumanomi). The creatures almost come to life on the classic Sailor 1911 fountain pens specially made to accommodate the designs and fitted with a solid 21K gold nib that gives absolute writing perfection. The Creatures of the Deep collection will ultimately include 10 species. Each will be produced in a signed and numbered limited edition of only 88 pieces worldwide. An inspired tribute by Sailor to the importance of preserving the marine environment for current and future generations. Fountain pens use cartridges or converter.
