Visconti Declaration of Independence Rollerball Pen
July 4th, 1776 is a date that changed the world. It is the day that declared the birth of a great nation and enshrined the rights of
free and independent people. Adopted by the Continental Congress, the Declaration of Independence announced that the 13 American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, were now independent states, and thus no longer part of the British Empire.
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson and signed by 56 members of the Congress in pen and ink, it is fitting that Visconti would commemorate this event with an amazing limited edition fountain pen. Visconti uses its sophisticated scrimshaw technique to replicate the full text of the Declaration of Independence onto the pen’s ivory resin body. The writing is just large enough to be legible to the naked eye – a specially engraved viewing glass is included to magnify the intricate details. A reproduction of the painting, “Declaration of Independence” by the American artist John Trumbull, is inscribed on the barrel. The ornate bands are cast in aged sterling silver including the blind cap engraved with an American bald eagle. Inside the pen is a very special surprise: the end of the plunger mechanism is a Liberty Bell, the iconic symbol of American independence. The fountain pen holds the remarkable Visconti Dreamtouch 23K palladium nib that is superbly flexible and responsive.
