Montegrappa NASA Atlantis Ballpoint
NASA ATLANTIS Ballpoint
Few technological inventions have been more awe-inspiring than the Space Shuttle. Over three decades, the flagship of America’s space program flew an incredible 135 missions until its retirement in 2011. Five orbiter vehicles were built in total: the third being Atlantis – notable not only as the final shuttle to fly, but for carrying the first Italian to space. Thirty years after astronaut Franco Malerba made history on STS-46, Montegrappa resumes its partnership with NASA to mark the anniversary.
Realized in the space agency’s signature colors, NASA Atlantis reconnects with an optimistic, early nineties aesthetic. Space aficionados also recall 1992 as the year NASA retired its iconic “Worm” logo – reproduced here at the base of the cap. With the world on the cusp of a new era in space exploration, Montegrappa’s open-edition design recalls the hope, wonder and sheer adrenaline of the Space Shuttle program. For the Italian maker, it follows a pair of celebrated 2019 Moon Landing tribute editions – also issued with the permission of NASA-
Handmade in Italy, NASA Atlantis is constructed from high-density resin and stainless steel in three writing modes: fountain pen, rollerball and twist-action ballpoint. Body detailing is realized with red and blue enamel fill while precision engraving adds detailing to the clip and end caps.
