Overall
What is your opinion of the quality of this item?
I was visiting Washington DC recently. It was my first time there. One of my stops was to be Fahrney's Pens. I wanted to bring home a pen to remember the trip by. I saw the Gettysburg Fountain Pen on their website, I did a little research, and decided it was the one pen that would always remind me of my trip to DC. Yes, I know Gettysburg is about 100 miles from DC, but my trip started out to the battlefield (I was flying in to BWI). It was only after I discovered DC and all it had to offer that I decided Gettysburg could wait until my next trip when I had more time. I love the size of the pen and the history of the wood. The description only describes the nib as steel. I was expecting a medium nib but I would say it is more of a fine nib. It is a smooth writer and looks great. Thank you Fahrney's for having such a great piece of history available. Plus, it is MADE IN THE USA.

Disappointing

Not very good
Very ordinary
The cap does not post on the barrel when you are writing. This is a fundamental defect. I have over 200 pens in my collection, and all of their caps either screw on to the barrel when I'm writing or attach firmly. I can't properly use a pen where the cap doesn't attach firmly during writing because of my large hands.
No

The pen is a piece of history, vicariously obtained. It seems well made. The nib is nice, more Fine than Medium, and I like that.
It is fine, as is, but I used a brown liquid shoe polish to even out the appearance and then polished it. The cap wood was distinctly darker that the barrel wood and by darkening it and evening out the color it looks a lot nicer now.
A little hard to get the ink flowing the first use, but now it is fine.
I believe so.
