With its latest Great Characters Special Edition, Montblanc celebrates the cultural legacy of Walt Disney, the American filmmaker, entrepreneur and innovator who pioneered motion picture technologies in sound, color and animation to bring to life his many unforgettable characters on screen, including the beloved Mickey Mouse. Disney delighted audiences with his animated shorts and live-action feature films. With the opening of Disneyland in 1955, he invited visitors from around the world to experience his imagination inside a spectacular theme park - a first of its kind. From his humble beginnings as a cartoon artist, Walt Disney became one of the most memorable filmmakers in history with a record-breaking 32 Academy Awards. Created in collaboration with The Walt Disney Company, the design of the Montblanc Great Characters Walt DisneyTM Special Edition is inspired by the famous monorail at Disneyland®. When it debuted in 1959 to transport guests around the park, it was the first daily operating monorail in the Western Hemisphere. The pen’s clip is a reference to the smoke stack on the steamboat in Steamboat Willie, Disney’s first animated short film starring Mickey Mouse. The black, red and yellow of the writing instrument mirrors the colors of Mickey. The precious resin cap and barrel are decorated with various “Hidden Mickeys”, a nod to the unofficial phenomenon where fans hunt for the character hidden throughout Disney properties. The solid 14K gold rhodium-coated nib of the Special Edition features a drawing of Mickey Mouse, while the cap top features the engraved signature of Walt Disney.
