The modern Maki-e technique involves screen printing the outline of the design, then hand-painting by a Maki-e artist as in the normal Maki-e process. The pen has a brass body with a lacquer finish in five traditional Japanese designs: a strong dragon, a wise owl, a Koi fish, the elegant Cyclamen flower and the peaceful cherry blossoms. The 3-Action includes a red and a black ball pen and a 0.5 mm pencil. Simply twist the pen body to rotate between the points.
