The designs are screened on brass or steel and layered with transparent lacquer. The black-with-primary-colors motif is an interpretation of Wright's designs for the Avery Coonley house constructed in 1907-08. The estate consisted of several buildings including a playhouse for the Coonley's young daughter. The black and grey square pattern finish evokes the Ennis House, one of the first to use modular concrete block, which Wright cast with Mayan effects. The black finish with subtly lined patterns echoes the art glass windows of the Robie House, designed by Wright for his client Frederick C. Robie in 1910. It is considered one of the most important buildings in the history of American architecture, inspiring an architectural revolution. Its sweeping horizontal lines, dramatic overhangs, stretches of windows and open floor plan make it a quintessential Prairie style house. The Brick, Robie and Coonley motifs are available as a capped rollerball or a fountain pen with steel nib. The coordinating cufflinks and card cases are plated in silver trim.
