Fahrney's Exclusive Retro 51 Limited Edition Tornado Flying Tiger Fountain Pen
August 15, 1945 marked the official end of World War II. To honor the 70th anniversary of this historic event, Retro 51 released the Flying Tiger Tornado rollerball, a limited edition of only 500 pieces which sold out in one day! We liked it so much, we asked Retro to make us a Fahrney’s exclusive Flying Tiger fountain pen. The 1st American Volunteer Group (AVG), nicknamed the Flying Tigers, was composed of pilots from the United States Army Air Corps, Navy, and Marine Corps, recruited under presidential authority and commanded by Claire Lee Chennault. The shark-faced nose art of the Flying Tigers remains among the most recognizable images of any combat unit of World War II. The AVG was a squadron of American volunteers that had tremendous success in its missions despite formidable odds: being outnumbered, limited supplies and brutal fighting in the Pacific. The Flying Tigers originally flew for the Chinese against the Japanese before the United States joined the war (note the Chinese soldier in the packing image).
Fahrney’s exclusive fountain pen bears the same riveted surface as the historic WWII Flying Tigers, lacquered in army green, printed with the iconic shark face and finished with antique silver accents. The number “29” on the barrel is a nod to Fahrney’s founding year in 1929. It holds a polished steel nib that will fly through all your writing tasks. The Flying Tiger fountain pen is a numbered, limited edition of only 300 pieces, available exclusively at Fahrney’s. Presented in a custom-designed tube featuring a Flying Tiger photo from WWII. Cartridge/converter fill.
