Montegrappa Elmo 02 Plus Piston Fountain Pen
The Elmo 02 Plus, modern comforts enhance a factory classic as mechanical ink management, sparkling finishes and newfangled nib democracy come to Heinrich Helm’s debonair, 1925 design.
For our factory’s first technical director, innovation always came from within. Heinrich ‘Elmo’ Helm had little to work with but made inventive use of machines and materials to create writing instruments ahead of the curve. That pioneering spirit lives on, as new home-grown technology helps us retrofit one of his most famous designs. The Elmo 02 upgrade adds modern mechanical efficiency to its many charms, treating ink aficionados to new Piston Plus filling, vast capacity and a 360º control window that shows when reserves are low. With a steel nib the Elmo 02 Plus may be the most complete fountain pen in its class.
The new charging mechanism draws ink directly into the barrel, with a massive 1.5 ml capacity to meet the most exhaustive travel demands. Its clever engineering avoids unnecessary internal componentry, helping the Elmo 02 Plus deliver unprecedented performance while living up to Helm’s ethos: finessed, yet frugal. There’s no question that Heinrich Helm’s archive silhouette has struck a chord with modern lovers of old-school style. Designed at the crest of the art deco wave, its austere elegance relies on cunning proportions, chiseled lines and a showpiece ‘cummerbund’ clip stamped from palladium-plated brass. Now, as his creation climbs into the mechanical realm, the Elmo 02 Plus scales new heights, with Interstellar and Spice metallic resins offering glittering counterpoints to the subdued black of Night. Oh yes, the future of fountain pens looks bright. With less fiddle, less fuss and more ink capacity than ever, we’re sure you’ll agree that even forgotten classics can become modern stars with the benefit of hindsight.
