The newest release of Delta's celebrated Indigenous People collection of limited edition writing instruments is dedicated to the Papuasi of New Guinea. The Asaro Warrior Mudmen from the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea are one of many indigenous tribes in the area struggling to survive and maintain their culture. They are often represented with ritual mud masks and claws made from bamboo, part of the legend of the men of mud. The 2015 Papuasi pens are a design collaboration between Delta and the Milanese sculptor, Francesco Rienzi, featuring special hand-turned resins evoking the swirling colors of the clay used to sculpt the masks. The cap and the barrel of the pen are decorated with resin rings in black and red that recall the colors of the PNG flag. The clip is modeled after the plentiful bamboo of the region; the central band is engraved with the pendants and masks of the warriors. These detailed parts are cast using traditional "lost wax" techniques, polished by hand and finished with precious rhodium or vermeil. All Papuasi fountain pens are fitted with Delta's patented FUSION nib, a unique fusing of an 18K gold plate over steel that creates a smooth ink flow. The nibs are engraved with a warrior's bamboo-clawed hand. Limited to 975 pieces of each mode, the collection includes a button-filler fountain pen with vermeil accents, and a cartridge/converter fountain pen and twist ball pen with rhodium accents.
