Graf Von Faber-Castell 2016 Gold Pen of the Year Fountain Pen
The Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2016 is part of a trilogy inspired by era-defining places and personalities. After Catherine the Great and Frederick the Great, the series is now complete with Empress Maria Theresa and ‘Schönbrunn Palace, Vienna’. The Empress and her beloved husband spent summers at the lavish Schönbrunn Palace which became a cultural and political center of the Hapsburg Empire. After his death in 1765, she created a memorial, the Vieux-Lacque Room, displaying their shared passion for Far East lacquer art. The Pen of the Year 2016 uses design elements from the room’s prized Chinese screens, guided by the Vieux-Laque’s conservator, Silvia Miklin, and the Japanese Maki-e artist Tomizo Saratani. The 24K gold-plated Special Edition pens are set with burnished black lacquer plates and decorated with 24K gold powder in the Hira Maki-e tradition. The platinum-plated editions are inlaid with handcrafted black onyx panels and contrasted with individually-grained flamed maple wood for a fascinating effect. The cap on each of the pens is adorned with a faceted black onyx gemstone. The fountain pens offer a plunger mechanism and a hand-engraved, bi-color 18K gold nib. The numbered, limited edition writing instruments are presented in a black wood case with an authenticity certificate signed by the master craftsmen. Bottle fill only.
