A beautiful pen and a good value

This pen is lovely, well-made, feels good in the hand, and is a smooth writer. I bought it with a fine nib. For my hand I'd prefer the Grand Victorian, but this was a gift for my wife, who has smaller hands and prefers thinner writing instruments than I do. She thinks it's perfect for her. I consider it an excellent pen for the money, with an elegance and durability you're unlikely to find in similarly-priced pens made by some better-known companies. The fit and finish are impeccable. With no more to say about that, I have a word or two about Fahrney's. This is the second pen I've bought from them in the last two months. The first was a much more expensive Namiki. I saw that one for a discounted price on the website and called because the full price appeared when I tried to check out, and it turned out that the price on the website was in error. They corrected it in short order, but they honored that price with no argument or complaint. I appreciated that a great deal. I've found Fahrney's easy and pleasant to deal with, and I expect to deal with them again in the future.

A classy classic

Yard O Led are sort of the Rolls Royce of the pen world - an old respected and pricy hand made classic. In a post modern world, with a pen world replete with new designs and revamped old names are they still worth it? The answer is yes. I now own two of their pens and in a way they mark a league of their own. Made of solid Sterling Silver (with all the required official issue marks and stamps), hand made (you can look closely and notice marks left by the tools of the craftsmen building and forming this pen ). Everything is very solid and well made. The fountain pen boasts a gold nib with some flex and a very consistent performance and ink flow. I would expect such old-world product to feature a piston filler but they went for the more modern (and cheaper) cartridge/ converter system - a drawback for purists but a big plus for those looking for versatility and ink availability (also - sort of zero maintenance needed). Size and writing comfort are very high. While the silver will tarnish with time and use - a simple wipe with a silver cleaning cloth gives it back the sheen it had when new. Very tastefully made, carrying all the marks of old world craftsmanship and quality that is rare in this mass industrial days. A true object of desire and an heirloom piece.
